Elemental 5.3 Primer

Hi again,

While I work through a proper update to the guide, here's another slightly chaotic brain dump of Things You Should Know For 5.3

Glyph of Unleashed Lightning is being changed to Lightning Shield, giving a 10 second DR when LS procs and merging the casting-while-moving function into Lightning Bolt itself. This glyph will be fairly useless for PvE as LS is hardly ever proc'd, so you can go with combinations like CL, FE & FS as a default, swapping others in & out as needed.

Stat wise, the Lava Burst cast change makes Haste better, but you can still do Haste focused, Mastery focused or split stat gearing. My personal plan is to treat Haste & Mastery as even for gearing & reforging, but going full mastery on enchants & gems.

DPS performance should go up ~6% in single target situations, and be significantly improved in haste buff situations like Primordius.

And that's essentially it.

    Boss aoe does proc LS (just confirmed with logs), but it depends on how DR is calculated with the glyph (is the damage that procs the shield reduced by 10% too, or do you take the damage, and THEN get the buff?) if its worth it. If its the former, I'd imagine the glyph is rather strong for progression raiding.

    hey bink, recently i checked the T15Heroic "BiS" setup on simcraft and i noticed that almost all gems were int/haste combinations. at least for 5.2 i thougt it's mastery > haste or is it due the lvb change which increase the castime is already implemented ?

    No, it's not. You need to re-read the guide again.

    i saw that its possible to go for either mastery-, balanced- or hastebuild. since the BiS setup is build around single target patchwerk-fight i guess its maybe okay to go for the hastebuild , but that haste has double the value of int ? kinda surprising me

    The various threads were pretty explicit in that haste builds were showing more dps then mastery builds. It isn't a huge landslide or anything, but it was rather clear that absolute maximum dps desired haste over mastery.


    You can DO any sort of stat build you want, of course, and heavy movement fights would always favor haste over mastery so I'm not even sure why you mentioned patchwerk, but the only time mastery was ever favored as a dps increase over haste was in theory when we discovered our 4p and the meta gem- actual simming has disagreed every step of the way because of rppm strength, amongst other reasons.

    However, if you dont need to absolutely maximize dps, then y eah, you can do whatever you want with mastery- its not a huge dps loss by any means

    Does the 6% dps increase account for no longer being penalized for glyphing Unleashed Lightning ? I was thinking we would see another 3% or so buff from that.

    It's including the loss of the -5% cast penalty, yes.
