  1. Mathlords of Draenor: Lava Surge

    Notes on the calculations.

    Time between Lava Surge procs: 5*3/(1+H)

    Ratio between Surge procs and normal Lava Burst use: (5*3/(1+H)/(8+2/(1+H)*1.5) The 1.5 cast time part is to account for the fact that while there is an 8 second cooldown, the time between casts without Surge will be 8+2/(1+H) or 8 plus the normal cast time. I multiply this by 1.5 to allow a half cast worth of time for player response times and the fact you'll be mid way through casting something when Lava ...

  2. Elemental Formulae Reference

    Reference post for a bunch of formulae I've worked out recently, which should make calculating stuff a bit easier.

    c = crit chance
    h = haste (1 + haste percentage)

    Clearcasting Uptime (% of # spells affected)

    (-0.124993*h^2+0.513433*h+0.381616)*c^2+(-0.249985*h^2+1.026866*h-0.236767)*c+(0.066967*h^2-0.228019*h+0.682205)

    Which becomes
    x = 0.682205 - 0.236767c + 1.026866ch - 0.249985ch2 + 0.381616c2 + 0.513433c2h - 0.124993c2h2 - 0.228019h ...

  3. Modeling Stat Weight Changes

    Hi guys, I'm back.

    Yes, I re-subbed recently, have found a new raiding guild to call home, and of course have a little mathy side project going. However, I don't have as much time as I'd like, which means getting the initial draft out for public viewing is taking some time. Rather than wait I figure I'll share what I'm working on here and see what others think.

    One of the things I’ve always thought about was working out stat “inflection points”, ie: where one stat becomes ...

  4. Maths of Pandaria: Elemental Haste in 5.3

    After the changes to Lava Burst in 5.3 I've been looking at haste & mastery scaling, attempting to get some simple guidelines to how much of each you should have. Now, it's important to note that these are rough guidelines, and may differ from stat weights that you get with a particular gear set. The guidelines are also broken down into those with the Legendary Meta Gem (LMG) and those without. This excludes Mastery from raid buffs like Grace of Air

    Without LMG

    Haste ...
  5. Maths of Pandaria: Haste Break Points in 5.3 - Affliction Warlock Edition

    Hello there graph fans, it's time for another edition of Bink Makes Graphs Out Of SimulationCraft Data Outputs (It's a good thing I don't use that as a title).

    Today I'm going back to one of my favourite subjects: haste breakpoints (obviously, as you've already read the blog topic). After the last round of looking at this I came to the opinion that the whole haste breakpoint subject has been grossly over-stated, and that there aren't many breakpoints that are important, if at all. ...
